Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of parent-child art therapy using CPRT(Child-parent relationship therapy) on child problem behaviors. The subject for this study was a pair of mother and her child who visited ¡®G¡¯ counseling center located in ¡®A¡¯ city, South Korea. They visited the counseling center to improve the child¡¯s problem behaviors. It was one of the child¡¯s problem behaviors that he phoned his mother during her work more than five to six times a day to complain headache and stomachache. The CPRT-based parent-child art therapy used in this study consists of four steps including parent education, parent-child art therapy in the home, supervision using recorded videotapes, and feedback. The changes in parent rearing attitudes were analyzed by the questionnaire on the parental rearing attitude and parent¡¯s self report. And the changes in child problem behaviors were analyzed by ¡®AB¡¯ single system design, recording frequency of target behaviors, which is composed of baseline, intervention and maintenance. This study showed that CPRT-based parent-child art therapy had positive effect on parental rearing attitudes(acceptance/rejection, autonomy/control, and parental achievement pressure). And also it improved child¡¯s problem behaviors (addictive phone use, complaints of physical symptoms). Therefore CPRT- based parent-child art therapy may be effective for improving parental rearing attitudes and child behaviors. This study has significant implication that parent-child art therapy combined by CPRT may be applied in the field of art therapy for improving child's problem behaviors.
